Full Moon's Newsflash Vol. 169
Previously available on disc in a muddy transfer struck from battered video sources (as a 35mm negative has been long lost to time), Full Moon recently unearthed a pristine 16mm interpositive of the 1977 Charles Band sci-fi classic END OF THE WORLD and gave it a 2K scan, fully remastering the movie in HD and making it look better than its looked since its original theatrical release! And now you too can finally experience this misunderstood dark sci-fi classic as it was meant to be seen!
When Professor Andrew Boran and his wife Sylvia tap into a series of strange signals from space that predict natural disasters on earth, they track the source to a mysterious, remote convent. There, they discover that aliens have cloned the Priest and the nuns and are using the abbey as a base camp for their mission to spur on global destruction. Can the heroes stop the invaders and save the earth? Should they?
An early effort from Band, END OF THE WORLD is a moody, bizarre science fiction drama that combines elements of sophisticated genre classics like THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and the gritty, downmarket vibe of '70s exploitation horror films, something that director John Hayes (GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE, GARDEN OF THE DEAD) excelled at.
Featuring the iconic Christopher Lee (HORROR OF DRACULA, THE WICKER MAN) in a dual role and elevated by a supporting cast that includes Sue Lyon (LOLITA, CRASH!), Dean Jagger (X THE UNKNOWN, KING CREOLE) and Lew Ayres (BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, SALEM'S LOT), the remastered END OF THE WORLD will premiere on Full Moon Features this Friday and then make its Blu-ray and DVD debut in January.
It's a slice of vintage retro weirdness that's ready to be rediscovered!
